This is a bit of a deviation from the basic theme of this blog, which is eating simply, healthfully, and inexpensively, but the FOMI seat cushion is a product I use and believe in, and I just want to share it with you! In its own way, it is simple, healthful, and inexpensive. Don’t eat it, though – unless you want a very bad stomachache!
A Product for People Who Sit for a Living
Yes, I sit for a living. I’m an over-the-road long-distance truck driver. But probably far more people reading this work at an office job or sitting factory job. This is definitely the product for you, too.
I drive a Freightliner Cascadia. For all the plusses of this particular brand of truck, seat comfort is not one! I’ve tried all kinds of pads, mats, etc., over my years of driving, and without fail, my none-too-naturally-cushioned rear end gets sore after an hour or so of driving. My wife has laughed at me for all the seat cushions I’ve tried – and then left behind because they just didn’t do the job.
In a job where safety is to some degree related to comfort, this was just not acceptable.
I’ve been using this product now for a month or so – and it’s truly amazing! I have to remind myself that I need to get up and exercise regularly because the seat cushion is so comfortable I can forget that I still need to exercise.
The particular product I use is officially titled the FOMI Coccyx Extra Thick Seat Cushion. Buy it, try it! Driver, office worker – anyone who sits for long periods of time. You owe it to yourself.
Characteristics of the FOMI Seat Cushion
This product has fully 3.5″ of memory foam of excellent quality, which conforms nicely to the contours of the body, providing support and relieving pressure points. After use, the memory foam quickly bounces back to its original form, providing consistent comfort all day long. The cushion has just the right amount of thickness, and is neither too plush nor too firm.
The non-slip bottom ensures that the cushion will not move easily when you get up. I’ve had experience with other pads where, when I got out of the truck, for example, the pad would “follow” me, and end up on the ground! This has not even once happened with the FOMI. It remains firmly in place when I get up and when I sit down.
The FOMI seat cushion has a cutout spot for the tailbone – very critical for long-term comfort.
Some memory foam products get “hot” – they don’t “breathe” very well. I have not found that to be true with the FOMI seat cushion.
Driving a truck is a much rougher driving experience than driving a car. There is far more shaking and jostling while going over road bumps. I used to have serious back issues driving some of the roads in the Canadian prairies and American heartland states; that has been greatly reduced with the FOMI, because the up-and-down motion is greatly ameliorated because of the thickness of the foam.
The Price Is Right
You could spend an equivalent amount of money for other products that claim to be wonderful to sit on; forget all of them and go direct to the “Cadillac,” the FOMI seat cushion.
Now I can’t claim to have tried all the other products out there. I’ve heard of a product – never tried it – that costs around $550, that supposedly conforms fully to both your back and body. At one point I wondered if I would need to go to this very expensive product to alleviate my discomfort. But now I’m not even interested; the FOMI seat cushion does the job. I can drive for hours in a totally relaxed fashion, without a hint of pain or chafing!
Another Product to Go With the FOMI Cushion…
The same time I bought the FOMI seat cushion, I also ordered the Everlasting Comfort Lumbar Support Pillow. This I also highly recommend! It goes great with the FOMI seat cushion, and gives that extra support that your back needs when sitting, whether you are driving a truck or working a computer.
One cool feature of this support pillow is that it has a long strap which makes it ideal for use in a truck, because it has the necessary reach to be able to secure it well around the back side of a rather large truck seat.
Conclusion
I really, really highly recommend these products for every truck driver. I also recommend it for office workers and anyone else who sits for a living – or who sits, period! Maybe you’re a full-time gamer in your parent’s basement; you could also use these products.
